On Wednesday, November 21 we will be hosting a full-day preconference of Local Immigration Partnerships. Join researchers, service providers, Local Immigration Partnerships, R\u00e9seaux en immigration francophone, representatives of all levels of government and others working in the area of immigration for a three-day event on immigration in an increasingly complex environment.\r\n\r\nThe theme of this year\u2019s P2P Conference is Borders, Welcoming Communities, and the Politicization of Immigration: Challenges and Opportunities Surrounding the Dynamic Movement of People. The crossing of borders and the politicization of immigration are increasingly salient issues for Canadians and internationally, yet we must not lose focus on the fact that a successful immigration program includes welcoming communities and recognition of the individual people involved in migration. The conference will address the challenges and opportunities these facets of immigration present to us today. The conference will include plenary sessions, workshops, a poster session, and opportunities to network with colleagues. More than 400 attendees are expected to participate.\r\n\r\n\"SBala\"<\/a>We are pleased to announce that the keynote speaker at this year's conference is Sharon Bala, author of the bestselling debut novel - The Boat People. The novel is the gripping story of a group of refugees who survive a perilous ocean voyage to reach Canada, and then face the threat of deportation amid accusations of terrorism. It portrays the morally complex situation of these refugees, how they are handled by the Canadian system, and the shifting perceptions held by those with whom they come into contact. The Boat People was a finalist for Canada Reads 2018 and the 2018 Amazon Canada First Novel Award. In her keynote address, which will kick off the second day of the conference, Sharon will share insights gained from the background research she conducted for The Boat People, the process of writing such a novel, and the reception it has received across the country.\r\n\r\nWe are also pleased to announce that special guests from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and from Minist\u00e8re de l'Immigration, de la Diversit\u00e9 et de l'Inclusion will address the conference and provide updates on policies and programs that are being implemented or are on the horizon to address our immigration challenges and optimize our successes.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nPreconference of the Local Immigration Partnerships\r\n<\/span><\/strong>Paving the Way for our Future: A Conference for LIP Engagement and Sustainability\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nOn Wednesday, November 21 we will also be hosting a full-day preconference of Local Immigration Partnerships. The preconference will focus on topics that the LIPs have identified as high priority at this time (as determined through a survey of LIPs), and will provide lots of opportunities for sharing of ideas and information, and discussion.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n
