{"id":4856,"date":"2004-08-25T20:34:24","date_gmt":"2004-08-26T00:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/p2pcanada.truemarket.io\/toolkits-reports\/newcomer-integration-policies-in-canada\/"},"modified":"2004-08-25T20:34:24","modified_gmt":"2004-08-26T00:34:24","slug":"newcomer-integration-policies-in-canada","status":"publish","type":"toolkits-reports","link":"https:\/\/p2pcanada.truemarket.io\/fr\/toolkits-reports\/newcomer-integration-policies-in-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Newcomer Integration Policies in Canada"},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"toolkits-reports-category":[119],"class_list":["post-4856","toolkits-reports","type-toolkits-reports","status-publish","hentry","toolkits-reports-category-settlement-and-integration-policies-and-practices"],"acf":{"blocks":[{"acf_fc_layout":"text","text":"<p>This paper describes integration policy and programs in Canada, excluding those in the Province of Quebec.\u00a0 It underscores two defining features of the Canadian approach: i) the \u201ctwo-way street\u201d approach to integration; and ii) the delivery of the bulk of services by third parties, primarily in the non-governmental sector.\u00a0 In the first section, the Canadian \u201cshared citizenship\u201d or \u201cdiversity model\u201d frames the discussion.\u00a0 The second part lays out the major policies and programs in place to facilitate the integration of newcomers, and the third section discusses the challenges and some of the policy\/program solutions to these challenges in four key areas: housing; labour market; education; and newcomer relations with public administration (civic participation, justice and health). Major conclusions include the finding that most challenges are being tackled by a range of programs and policies, but to be more effective, better co-ordination is key.\u00a0 Naturally more resources would be ideal, but only after co-ordination is improved.\u00a0 Finally, more of a focus on the intersections of other identity markers with newcomer status would better address the needs of newcomers as they seek to integrate into Canada.
